Karl Horeis: "These are the kind of flakes we found on the site above the river. They were scattered in groups -- apparently where some ancient tool makers left them while chipping away at a stone spear point. Maybe they were preparing to hunt caribou or even mammoth! Later we landed on the sand bar below to see if we could find the stones used to make the flakes. We brought some samples back to camp for Dr. Jeff Rasic, a flint knapper, to try. Somewhere between Raven Bluff and the Chukchi Sea (between Kivalina and Point Hope), Alaska.
