Details

Beneath a thin layer of clouds, a lead in the sea ice is visible during a NASA Operation IceBridge flight. Leads are linear fractions in sea ice which reveal open water and are used for referencing 'freeboard' measurements of the ice. Aboard the WP-3D Orion over the Arctic Ocean.
