Details

Occasionally, large rocks are collected in the sediment cores. These rocks are known as drop stones, which are debris that was picked up on land by a glacier and then deposited on the seafloor as the ice around it melted away. Aboard the R/V Nathaniel B. Palmer icebreaker in the Southern Ocean.
