Gavin Chensue carefully heats the styrofoam box of equpiment. It's important that the instruments don't freeze as they go into the upper atmophere, but over-heating them can also be damaging. Temperature data inside the box is monitored on a computer until it's exactly the desired temperature. Then the sytrofoam lid is quickly placed to keep the heat from escaping.
