This plate shows bacteria colonies growing after filters from this research cruise were used to inoculate (implant) the nutrient media. The colonies are confined to circular areas. This is the area where the filter touched the media. Any bacteria on the filter were transfered to the media to grow and divide. Aboard the Nathaniel B. Palmer.
