The snowy sheathbill (Chionis albus) is the only bird in Antarctica that does not have webbed feet. These "Antarctic chickens" are important for the Antarctic ecosystem because of their vital role as scavengers. Sheathbills are known to eat feces, carcasses, and other waste from penguin and seal colonies. Aboard the Nathaniel B. Palmer.
