Details

The rectangular box on the bottom of the box coring rig takes an undisturbed sample of the topmost sediment on the sea floor. Then the arm on the right is pulled up by cables which swings the cover on the left under the box to preserve the core on the way back up to the ship. Aboard the USCGC Healy icebreaker in the Arctic Ocean.
