Jeff Peneston's "first little berg" was smaller than the Oden. As the ship passed by it, the waves made it roll over and Jeff could see the light blue color of glacial ice. It had started out as snow falling on the continent and over thousands of years the snow compressed to blue ice and the glacier moved downhill to the sea. After floating as an ice shelf, this iceberg broke free and will end its life as it slowly floats northward to melt. Aboard the icebreaker Oden.
