Gerty Ward says, "Mike Dempsey contemplates the sea ice while on CTD (Conductivity-Temperature-Depth probe) watch. The watch is outside at all times while the rosette is in the water to be sure that no ice interferes with the equipment. This can be cold and lonely work."
