All garbage is burned in the ship's incinerator, except hazardous waste. None is put into the ocean. The Arctic has a zero discharge rule: nothing considered a pollutant may be discharged or dumped from the ship. In the engine room, aboard the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Louis S. St-Laurent, on the Beaufort Sea.
