Holger Scheilzeth, of the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Seewiesen, Germany, is holding one end of the 100 meter rope that is being dragged across the tundra. The rope is used to mark the area walked, and to flush birds. At the Barrow Alaska Research Center (BARC) in Barrow, Alaska.
