Elke Bergholz and astrophysicist Helmuth Spieler at the Ceremonial Pole after the "Race Around the World", which is held every Christmas morning at the South Pole Station. Members run, drive, walk, or ski round the pole three times, a total of about 2.5 miles. Special prizes for the winners and a t-shirt for all who complete the race are waiting at the finish line. Many people attended and completed the race, even at such a high elevation and minus 40 F with windchill factor. At the Geographic and Ceremonial Pole of the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station.
